Doorstep Delivery Service

Ocelot Chocolate now available, order before 9am this Friday, for delivery direct to your door Saturday 2nd May.

We’d like to give a big thanks to everyone who has ordered from our small business since the lockdown, it really means a lot! Many thanks to everyone who also completed our online survey about Delivery. The feedback was very useful and as a result, we’ve now added some favourites from other local producers such as this delicious hand-crafted range by Ocelot Chocolate. We have also expanded our delivery area to include EH16.

If you live slightly outside our catchment area, but would like to order, please do send us an email and we will see if it is possible. For those living in East Lothian, Earth Matters in North Berwick and the Brand Family Farm, East Fortune should have stock by Friday.

We continue to work on adding more produce from local independent producers and expect to be able to offer bread from Company bakery, coffee from Williams &Johnson as well as toiletries from Miel Botanicals to our delivery circuit shortly.

Due to the volume of orders we have been receiving, we now have a cut off time of 9am Friday for delivery on Saturday 1st May, to allow sufficient time for processing. Any orders received after this cut-off time will be delivered the following week.

Small is beautiful

Coronavirus and Business Operations

As a small micro-business, we’re all too aware of the ever-growing uncertainty that faces us. Please be assured that we’re constantly working behind the scenes to ensure our working practices align with governmental advice to minimise risk and keep our staff safe. We’re keen to keep supplying you with our tasty fermented goods, a source of food which is reputed to bring health benefits and could help boost your immune system.

It’s in times like these that small, independent businesses really need both the support of the consumer as well as the government, so we do urge you to continue to shop local or independent, wherever possible. Fortunately, as we’re small, we’re also able to be a bit flexible, so we’re busy thinking up ways in which we can keep you stocked up with our products if you can’t get to our regular stockists.

We’re planning to trial a home delivery system this Saturday 21st March in Central Edinburgh with a couple of ‘Edinburgh Fermentarium Essentials’ packs with all your favourite ferments so we will announce full details soon. Additionally, we have been mulling over the idea of launching a subscription service for a very long time, but it always seems to be at the bottom of our ‘to do’ list, so if you can spare a minute or two please fill in our short survey at the below link, it will be very helpful for our future planning:

We’re also currently reviewing our plans for forthcoming workshops and events. In the meantime, here’s a piece this week in the Guardian about how to improve your immune system and the benefits of boosting your microbiome.

UPDATE: Tuesday 24th March 2020

Following the UK lockdown I’m here to give a quick update on Edinburgh Fermentarium. My micro-business making healthy, fermented krauts and kimchi is currently still open for business. Our commercial kitchen is operated by just myself and an assistant, and our production and delivery procedures follows all current government advice.
We’ve adapted our online sales page so postage is no longer available, but endeavour to continue to supply our regular stockists, if they are currently open (see our stockists info for more details).
Following our trial last weekend, we can offer a personal direct delivery from kitchen to door in central Edinburgh (EH1 – EH12) this coming Saturday on any order with a minimum value of £24.
I will deliver the items myself and leave them outside your door, and will be using hand sanitiser and blue gloves. All orders will be in a paper bag.

Many thanks for your continued support. Please stay safe.
